Regulatory Requirements in Canada

Cosmetics

  • All cosmetic products must be notified to the Health Canada Cosmetic Division prior to importation
  • All cosmetic products must have bilingual (French and English) labels that comply with Canadian labelling rules
  • All cosmetic products must be manufactured, prepared, packaged, and stored under proper sanitary conditions and must not cause injury to the user’s health

Food

  • Products must have bilingual (French and English) labels that comply with Canadian food labelling rules
  • In addition, specific food products must comply with regulations in terms of processing methods, ingredients, grading, container size etc.
  • All food products must be manufactured, prepared, packaged, and stored under proper sanitary conditions

Natural Health Products

  • All Natural Health Products must be registered and licensed by Health Canada
  • All NHP license holders must have a Canadian entity in order to import into Canada and their manufacturer/contract manufacturer must be listed on their Canadian entity’s Site License
  • All Natural Health Products must be manufactured, packaged, labelled, and stored in a facility that has a valid GMP program in place
  • All Natural Health Products must have bilingual (French and English) labels that comply with NHPlabelling rules
  • All Natural Health Products must have accelerated and/or Real time Stability Data available
  • Prior to product shipment, all Natural Health Products must be tested against their specifications to ensure the efficacy and safety of the finished product within product specification
  • All batch records must be maintained on a reasonable basis and be available for review if requested by Health Canada
